The 20 days before and after May 15th are the best days for tornadoes. If you chase during April, May or June, your odds are very good for seeing at least one tornado, and likely several.
If my wife and I go together, will we get a discount? The double occupancy discount is already built into the price. Please make sure you put down a deposit before January 31st and you will save $500. That's a huge discount!
Do you stay in nice hotels/motels? We aim for highly rated mid-range hotels. At times however, our selection may be limited. We book online as soon as we know where we'll be that night, and we always read reviews, and customer ratings.
Will you teach us to chase? Since we only take 2 guests at a time, we have no problem teaching you everything you want to know, and showing you at the same time. Let us know when you sign up that you are interested in learning to storm chase, and we will advise you on what hardware and software you'll want to purchase and bring with you. Once we have fulfilled our obligation to get you into a tornado warned cell, we will even allow you to make decisions about which storms to chase. (as long as you have purchased both seats.) Unfortunately, if the other person on the tour is not with you, then we would be unable to allow you to make decisions regarding chasing.
What kind of camera should I bring? If you're a photographer, bring all of your gear including a cable release / intervalometer, tripod, and ND filter. If you have a
GoPro, definitely bring it along. If you know nothing about cameras and just want some great shots, then I recommend a
Sony DSC-WX350 or a
Canon PowerShot SX700 HS. Both shoot HD video and WiFi so you can instantly share your storm chasing experience. If you are a photographer, comfortable using a DSLR camera, check out this camera as a smaller alternative:
Canon PowerShot G7X
I would like to go on a tour alone with you, is this possible? Only if you purchase both guest seats for one tour.
Where and when do we eat? We eat breakfast at the hotel. We have lunch usually around 1pm or 2pm at a fast food restaurant. (My favorite lunch is at Subway) If we are in position and storms have not initiated yet, we will go to a sit down restaurant like Chili's, Outback, or Village Inn. Dinner is usually at 9 or 10pm on chase days, usually whatever is close by because we're all hungry! We will eat earlier on stormless days.
Can I bring my tablet or laptop? Do you have WiFi? Yes and Yes. We have mobile WiFi. We do not stream video to any web sites, so as long as we are not in the middle of nowhere (which happens) we usually have a pretty good signal.
Can I charge my electronics in the car? Yes we have quite a few DC plug outlets and USB outlets as well. We recommend charging everything up in your hotel at night though, so you can get through most of the day without wires.
Do you really give me my money back if I don't see a tornado? The 100% Money Back Guarantee entitles you to a full refund if we do not get you inside a National Weather Service (NWS)
tornado warned area during your tour. It does not entitle you to a full refund if you do not see a tornado. If you do not get to see a tornado on your tour, we will provide you with a certificate for 25% off your next tour the following year.
